FAQ

What are some of the benefits of having an accessible website?

Beyond complying with government regulations, you will be opening your business to millions of individuals and billions of dollars in spending.

What makes an accessible website different than a regular website?

There are a few things that make a website accessible. For people with low vision, it could be as simple as having high contrast (example black text on a white background or vice versa).  For someone using a program called a screen reader, the computer literally reads the contents of your website aloud. In this case, it is the programming behind the scenes that makes a difference.

When will the Information and Communication Standard become law?

It is anticipated that this will become law within the next couple of years, if not sooner.

I don't have a website, can you develop one for me?

Yes. Accessible Websites focuses on making websites more accessible for people with disabilities and our staff are web developers first and foremost with years of web and graphic design experience.

My business has a fairly small website, is it worth while making it accessible?

People with disabilities and their friends and families spend billions of dollars in consumables each year.  Having an accessible website will allow them to patron your business and give you an edge above your competitors who may not already have an accessible website.

I have a friend who has difficulty reading websites due to their low vision.  Will they be able to access my website?

Most definitely.  Due to our aging population the segment of individuals who have a disability or vision loss is growing more rapidly than the population itself.

On my website I have a lot of videos, how can that be accessible for someone who is blind?

There are many methods to make video and multimedia accessible including captioning and descriptive video.

If I have an accessibility audit performed how do I decipher the results and remediate my website based on recommendations?

The report you receive from your audit will be written in plain language.  If you have a design company that you work with, they should be able to act on recommendations.  If you prefer, our team of designers will help you implement any changes.

How much does it cost?

Like all things, the cost of the project depends on the service you choose and the size of your website.  Accessible Websites’ goal is to help you make your website accessible for a reasonable cost.  It can be as low as a few hundred dollars, but it can be more, again depending on the scope of the project.

How will my customers know that I made my website accessible?

Accessible Websites’ "Approved" certification program puts a small stamp on your site letting readers know that your site is accessible.

Is your certification program a one time deal?

You will receive the stamp once remediations are made.  Each year your site will be reviewed to make sure that any new content is in compliance with guidelines and your certification will be renewed.
